Coming home to mama

Since political behaviour here to the largest extent still is determined by irrational urges, the European Union therefore is in everyday thought most often considered mainly as an elite club providing privileges for its members, and not as an actual goal that should be attained.

The black sheep

People here feel a strong emotional bond with Europe, which is looked upon as the mother whose affection has never been reached. Serbs like to consider themselves as the black sheep in the European family, but at the same time they feel a part of it.

Just as in Europe worldwide, owing to the unfinished national unity process throughout history, Serbia has a true treasure in the existence of different micro-entities and cultural milieus, which, in a different surrounding of the future transnational federation will have a chance of developing its specialties in a more complete manner.

ID, please

My identity is European in its ambivalence. I have that feeling whenever I find myself in some of the European cities – in Boulevard Saint Michel in Paris or Heldenplatz in Vienna, I feel liberated, so much so that I always realize that I do not know who I am, but have a strong desire to discover it.

Until then, I mostly think of that old John Lennon song as I continue to creep through the borders of the Schengen circle like some silent entropic element…
