Drink

The smoke-filled brownish »bodega« is the traditional Danish way. Uncool beer from provincial breweries might go as cheap as 12 kroner. To try the real thing go to Postillonen (no sign on the door) at the corner of Istedgade and Gasværksvej – a short stroll from the Central Station.

Hard-core beer lovers will feel at ease at Woodstock in Christiania, a pub with an international atmosphere and reputation.

If you’re broke buy a beer for a few kroner in the supermarket. Many kiosks will double their price on beer in the evening since the law actually doesn’t allow them to sell late.

Smoke

Christiania is not the only option! There are a several dozen (illegal) coffee-shop scattered around Nørrebro and Vesterbro, usually in suspicious-looking basements. Ask the local youngsters hanging out in Adidas gear at street corners for directions. Prices vary between 50-100 kroner a gram.

Eat

The rumour about Copenhagen hot dog-men pissing in the water they use for boiling the sausages is not completely true. If you want to try a halal hot dog visit »McAllah’s« at the corner of Nørrebrogade and Slotsgade. Don’t miss the Danish speciality »smørrebrød«. Bon Appetit at Vesterbrogade 15 is a decent place.

Shop

Christiania’s huge Christmas fair in Den Grå Hal is the place to go if you’re looking for something to bring home. Much of the stuff sold here is handcrafted by local artists. Enjoy the fair’s specialities: Pot chai or hot beer. Open 14-20 Mon-Friday, 12-20 Sat-Sunday.

Hang out

The community center Blågården (Blågårds Plads, Nørrebro) is open all day to activists.

The legendary Ungdomshuset – a 20 year old squatters’ cultural fortress – is open 24 hours a day. There’s soup kitchen, café and music: Jagtvej 69, Nørrebro.

Kafa-X, an anti-fascist café at Korsgade 19, Nørrebro (closed during demos) is also open 24 hours a day.

Get around

Copenhagen is a small town: use your feet! Your second best bet for transportation is a bike. Rent a Bike at Copenhagen Central Station and Østerbro Station will charge you 75 kroner a day.

Busses are frequent and certain lines run throughout the night. A ticket costs 14 kroner and is valid also for the local S-train system and Metro. Hustlers don’t pay but pick up used klippekort from trash bins at the bus stops and lick the magnetic stripe on the back. This will award you with an extra klip.

Bus no. 8 runs through the town center and connects the Nørrebro district with Holmen and Christiania – the three main hotspots for activists during the summit.

Metro runs from Nørreport Station and stops at Christianshavns Torv, a walkable distance from Holmen and Christiania.
