Filmscreening and debate - The Coconut Revolution

Come join a cosy evening with IF Vestsjælland. We will eat together at 18 o’clock then we will watch and debate the documentary The Coconut Revolution (45 min.).

The documentary tells the story of the successful uprising of the indigenous peoples of Bougainville Island against the Papua New Guinea army and the mining plans of the mining corporation Rio Tinto Zinc (RTZ) to exploit their natural resources. The documentary reveals how the Bougainville Revolutionary Army (BRA) managed to overcome the marine blockade strategy used by the Papuan army by using coconut oil as fuel for their vehicles. The documentary is from 2001 and the movement it portraits is described as the "world’s first successful eco-revolution".

After watching the documentary we will debate the film, discussing what experiences we can draw on from it.

The event will take place at Makvärket, Teglværksvej 30, Knabstrup (between Holbæk and Kalundborg).

We will serve coffee/tea/snacks. We are looking forward to seeing you!
