We Object is an exhibition on objects and relations developed in the framework of the spring programme I would prefer not to and as a response to the activities that have taken place.

Emma Hedditch and Henriette Heise investigate the routes of exchange and knowledge that objects inhabit by exploring their own relations to a group of objects and their materiality.

The exhibition proposes that we think of objects as more than just things in the world and consider that “objects are experiences, that they are experiments with materials, desires, time, confusion, desperation” and bear witness to specific histories, sensibilities and relations to the world around them.

The project manifests a refusal to take on the assignment given by the curators; to develop a project on resistance and everyday life in relation to the current crises and neoliberal hegemony. At the same time the exhibition evidently fulfills this ambition and performs a resistance to the idea that art should solve the problems of a dysfunctional system.

Emma and Henriette met as artists and have over the years developed a friendship through their collaborations on different art projects. The exhibition is an experiment with these relations and their manifestation in objects.

I WOULD PREFER NOT TO

A programme of presentations and exhibitions on questions regarding economy, work and everyday life. By making connections between structural conditions, daily life and psychic states the programme explores how our lives are affected by the dominance of neoliberal policies and the current economic, social and political crisis.

The project is supported by The Danish Art Council and Københavns Billedkunstudvalg
