Nina Power: The Future of Protest - Who is the Collective Subject?

CESAU's forskergruppe for 'Sociale bevægelser og politisk protest' inviterer til åben forelæsning om samme emne af den britiske filosof, feminist og debattør Nina Power. 

 

The Future of Protest: Who is the Collective Subject?

 

This talk will address some pressing issues both inside and outside of the academy. With resistance to market reforms and against austerity rising and falling in peaks over the past few years in Europe and elsewhere, this talk will try to come to terms with concepts that circle around any discussion of protest and its possible place in the overturning of neoliberal ideology and practice. Through a combination of theoretical analysis of certain key terms - the public, the demos, the police - and an empirical examination of the ways in which the relation between these terms is changing at high speed on the ground, I will propose a series of ideas relating to the way in which we might conceive of political action and the collectives that undertake it. These ideas include 'decapitalism', 'negative collectivity' and 'militant empathy'.

 

Foredraget holdes i sammenhæng med udgivelse af Slagmark - Tidsskrift for idéhistorie #71: Sociale bevægelser og politisk protest. Efter fordraget vil der være en reception, hvor der er mulighed for købe nummeret og få en snak med redaktører og bidragydere. (Lokale for receptionen følger.)

 

Power har bl.a. forfattet, redigeret og oversat bøger om og af den franske filosof Alain Badiou. Derudover er hun kendt for bogen 'One-Dimensional Woman', der er oversat til dansk med titlen 'Den én-dimensionale kvinde'. Power er desuden en kendt stemme i den britiske offentlighed, hvor hun bl.a. har forsvaret de studenterprotester, der for et par år siden fandt sted i London.
