On behalf of Middle East Monitor and NASIM, we are pleased to invite you to our Copenhagen conference on Palestinian Rights that will be held on December 12, 2015.

20 months has passed since Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas signed applications to join 15 international treaties and conventions; but how is the situation for human rights on the ground? This public event aims to create awareness on the conditions for Palestinian human rights and to further understand the international political paradigms in which they are situated.

It will discuss various ways that Europe/Scandinavia can show solidarity with Palestinians and resist Israeli settlements. Throughout the conference we will focus on three overall problematics: 1) Human Rights Conditions in Palestine, 2) Have Palestinians entered a paradigm shift? 3) Ways in which Europe can help improve conditions for Palestinians’ human rights situation.

CONFERENCE SPEAKERS (list to be updated):

• Prof. Mads Gilbert, renowned emergency medical doctor and solidarity worker – 30 years experience working with Palestinians health care in crisis (Norway)
• Amelia Smith, journalist/staff writer at Middle East Monitor (London)
• Hanine Hassan, Policy director for the Euro-Mediterranean Human Rights Monitor, PhD candidate with Columbia University and Al-Jazeera Columnist (Gaza, New York)
• Lotte Buch Segal, Assistant Professor at Copenhagen University (Denmark)
• Dr. Ammar Dwaik, Director General of the Palestinian Independent Commission for Human Rights (ICHR)(Palestine/Israel)
• Hugh Lovatt, European Council on Foreign Relations (Belgium/London)
• Dimi Reider, European Council on Foreign Relations, staff writer at +972 Magazine (Israel)
• Dr. Nina Gren, Researcher at Centre for Middle Eastern Studies, Lund University (Sweden)

This mix of academics, journalists, human rights activists and political experts is an aim to endorse a multidisciplinary approach to fully comprehend the complexities of the matter. We want to encourage an international cooperation to countering any obstacles for Palestinians to have their human rights recognised, and effectively locate avenues for Europe to express solidarity and concrete support to bolster Palestinian civilians efforts for advancing this purpose.
