Open meeting with two guest speakers and Middle Eastern sweets.
The Syrian revolution is much more diverse than how it is portrayed in mass media, where the hot topics always encircle Western interests, whether it be the unproportioned focus on Islamism or the military intervention by the United States and it’s allies.
The meeting will attempt to counter contribute by raising some voices of the ongoing non-violent resistance in Syria that is generally being marginalized.
There will be two supplementing presentations about the current situation is Syria.
Sozdar Temmo is a Kurdish/Syrian activist who has lived in Denmark since the spring 2012. Sozdar was a student at the University of Damascus during the beginning of the revolution, where he also took part in the organising around the non-violent protests. Because of his political activism he had to flee Syria.
Sozdar will give a brief summarise of the recent developments in Syria and based on his on experiences he will talk in depth about the civil organizing of the revolution.
Ida Rump is a Master student at the Center for Middle Eastern Studies at Lund University, This summer in June she went on a short solidarity visit to Ma'arra al Numan in North Syria, to build up a solidarity network, and meet Syrian activist on ground.
Ida will give a brief talk about the trip and the civil organising in the city Ma'arra al Numan and talk about ideas for conducting international solidarity with the Syrian revolution.
